Cher on C-SPAN now?!?

Wed Jun 14, 2006 at 06:17:44 AM PDT

OK, this is admittedly a bit of a wasted diary, but I don't post daily. So I'm on the phone with the TV on mute and I look up and I see what I think is a Cher impersonator, but then see she's identified as "Cher" (anyone else on C-SPAN ever identified by only one name?).

She's on with a representative of Operation Helmet.

The groups stated mission:

OPERATION HELMET provides helmet upgrade kits free of charge to troops in Iraq and Afghanistan, as well as to those ordered to deploy in the near future.

I know that she's political, still not someone I expect to see on Washington Journal...Sounds like a good group anyway.

Santorum Freaks Out Over One Itty Bitty Post Card!

Mon Jun 12, 2006 at 09:36:22 AM PDT

You know, you'd really think that the numbnuts in the Santorum Campaign would stop drawing attention to the residency issue because:

1. They can't win.

2. They always end up looking really stupid.

The latest example is this story in today's The Philadelphia Inquirer (Yeah, I'm quoting the entire item because it's short and I'm quoted in it):

Poll

This shows that the Santorum Campaign...

The Debate: How Rick Santorum Can Win

Mon Apr 10, 2006 at 07:11:52 AM PDT

If you heard the front-runner in a primary debate espousing the following views in a Blue State:

- Against a living wage
- Against universal health care
- Against Roe V. Wade as settled law
- Against Feingold's call for censure of President Bush
- For keeping the troops in Iraq for another two years
you'd probably assume that the candidate was Republican...but you'd be wrong.

Bob Casey (PA-DINO) Endorses Alito

Wed Jan 25, 2006 at 08:01:00 AM PDT

On the very day in which EVERY DEMOCRAT on the Senate Judiciary Committee voted "NO" on endorsing Judge Samuel Alito's confirmation to the Supreme Court, Bob Casey announced that he endorses Alito.

On the very day in which the Pittsburgh City Council unanimously agreed to ask PA's two Republican Senators (Specter and Santorum) to vote against Alito, Bob Casey announced that he endorses Alito.

All of you who only care about getting rid of Santorum no matter how Santorum-like (Lite?) the person is who you would support in his place want to explain to me again why I should support Casey???

Whether they're pulling a Martha Stewart, or conspiring to subvert election laws, or ripping off their kids' school board, or outing a CIA agent, or practicing cronyism turned deadly, or hiring a bagman who in turn hires Mafia hit men, or lying to get us into an unjust war that kills tens of thousands, these guys are:

MoveOn's Rigged Poll

Fri Jun 17, 2005 at 02:10:56 PM PDT

I know that we all want to defeat Lil Ricky Santorum, but is that really a good excuse for MoveOn to rig their poll in favor of conservative, anti choice Bob Casey, Jr. and against progressive Chuck Pennacchio?

Here's their poll:

D.A.'s office to probe Santorum

Pittsburgh for Democracy member, Joy Sabl, discusses Santorum Homestead Tax Exemption
issue with District Attorney Stephen Zappala, Jr. - Photo by Maria Lupinacci

According to today's Pittsburgh Tribune-Review:

Allegheny County prosecutors don't know if U.S. Sen. Rick Santorum violated any laws by getting a $70 annual tax break on his Penn Hills house.

But District Attorney Stephen Zappala Jr.'s office announced Thursday it will investigate.

Democracy for Pittsburgh, a group of Democratic Party activists, petitioned Zappala for the inquiry. Democrats have targeted the Republican in next year's election.

"This is obviously a partisan political move on the part of these people, motivated either by the Democratic (National) Committee or the campaign of my opponent," said Santorum, the Senate's No. 3 Republican. "I'd hope the district attorney would not waste taxpayers' resources on playing political games."

Santorum '08 ???

Thu Apr 28, 2005 at 12:36:32 PM PDT

      The Hill reported yesterday:

Sen. Rick Santorum (R-Pa.) has "no intention" to run for president in 2008, but a media communications firm that represents him has registered a slew of relevant domain names in case the senator changes his mind.

New Media Communications, an Ohio-based Internet strategy company that runs Santorum's 2006 reelection website, has bought domain names such as ricksantorum2008.com, ricksantorum2008.net and santorum2008.org.

What if the Right is Right?

Fri Apr 01, 2005 at 07:56:12 AM PDT

With all the media coverage of the Schiavo case the phrase "Culture of Life" has come up plenty of times.  Many Republican politicians say that they are for the Culture of Life (and imply that the Democrats are for a "Culture of Death").

Well, I want to be open-minded about this.  What if the Republicans are right?  What if they are fighting the Good Fight?  If that's true, in 100 years or so, we may be seeing something like this:

Marines in Civvies Troll for Teens at the Mall

Thu Mar 24, 2005 at 04:49:58 AM PDT

Jamal (not his real name) is a 16 year-old high school student who was minding his own business on Tuesday shopping at Pittsburgh's Waterworks Mall. He was on the sidewalk when a white Chevy Malibu slowed down beside him. In the car were two white men casually dressed in jeans and T-shirts. The men called out to Jamal. They had an offer for him.

Now, when you hear a story about two grown men outside a mall trolling for kids you might fear the worst. If it was a younger child, you might expect them to offer candy or tales of a lost puppy. You might think that a kid who took them up on their offer might meet with an ugly death. In this case, your assumption that the men were offering Jamal the chance to die young is correct.

The men in the white Chevy Malibu wanted to know if Jamal was interested in signing up with the Marines.

I got you your pragmatism right here (grabbing crotch)

OK, It wasn't like I didn't see this coming. A month after the 2004 election I created this design:

Cheney Was Right: We Are Safer By Having Elected Bush

Sun Jan 02, 2005 at 07:14:22 AM PDT

"If we make the wrong choice, then the danger is that we'll get hit again -- that we'll be hit in a way that will be devastating from the standpoint of the United States."
- Vice President Dick Cheney

Well, it turns out he was correct!

You may well ask how I know that the United States has been made safer by having elected Bush for another term and the answer is quite simple:

Since reelecting Bush, we have had a new video tape by bin Laden, we've had lasers pointed into plane cockpits, and we've just completed three major holidays without any apparent need for the Homeland Security color-coded terror alert system to be raised from yellow to orange.

So, we must be safer!

In fact, just a little over a week after Bush was reelected, the federal government lowered the terror alert status from orange to yellow for a number of financial institutions in New York, New Jersey and Washington, D.C. which had been raised to orange in August (less than 3 months before the election).
